This week, we’re going to take a step out of the mobile world and congratulate our gaming colleagues who are fast approaching a momentous anniversary. In a couple of weeks it will be two decades since the first original PlayStation was released in Japan on December 3rd 1994.
This PlayStation went on to be the most successful gaming system of all time, receiving praise for its design and innovative CD-Rom format (a first in gaming electronics). The first console to ship over 100 million units, the Crash Bandicoot-ing PlayStation was only surpassed by its successor, the PlayStation 2. ‘PS2’, as it came to be known, was released in 2000 and is still honoured as the best-selling home console to date, having sold more than 155 million units. PlayStation’s third and equally successful console was released in 2006, bringing a new wave of high-def gaming that had never been seen before. Finally the latest addition to the family, the PlayStation 4, holds the title of the fastestselling device in history, selling 1 million units within its first 24 hours. So it’s safe to say that it’s been a good 20 years!

With each addition to the PlayStation series comes new and innovative technologies that have pushed perceptions of what is possible within gaming and entertainment. The recently launched and latest service, PlayStation Vue is testament to this, and marks the next generation of console TV.
PlayStation Vue offers users a cloud-based streaming service that will provide an array of TV channels and programmes without a monthly contract.
The service will soon be available on PS4 and PS3 devices, but other users don’t need to worry, as this will be rolling out across a range of other Sony and non-Sony devices soon.
If that wasn’t enough PlayStation news for you, well you’re in luck. In fact, you’re in luck anyway, as PlayStation have just launched a competition with their biggest prize offer to date. The list of prizes is obscenely long so we won’t list all of the 25 products that are on offer, but the prizes include amongs others a a stack of PS4 games, TVs, Xperia smartphone and tablet, DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controllers and two, yes two PlayStation 4 consoless.

Seeing as we’re celebrating our reign in innovative technology, it seems fitting to announce the release of our new Ultra-Compact External SSD Drives the SL-BG1 and SL –BG2.
