Sony Ericsson announced the perfect combination of a mobile phone and gaming console. The XPERIA Play, because that’s what the device is named, is the ultimate gaming mobile phone. Thanks to the long lasting co-operation between Sony and Sony Ericsson, the users can now enjoy an all-in-one device with Playstation features.
Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play sports a 16 million colours 4-inch display with a resolution of 480 by 854 pixels. The device is powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, with powerful Adreno 205 graphics. As well as a 5 megapixel camera, which can record HD quality videos, the XPERIA Play comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth with A2DP support. While the device looks ordinary when in portrait, after sliding out the Playstation certified gaming keyboard the real monster is unveiled. Here we have a layout already known to Playstation fans. 4-way dpad, 4 control buttons, analog touchpads in the middle and, what may be a surprise to some, “L” and “R” function buttons. Many may worry about the lack of support at launch, but Sony Ericsson has also taken great care of that by signing with 20 game developing studios which will allow for 50 titles to be released when the phone launches in March 2011. The great titles consist of: Assassin’s Creed, FIFA, Guitar Hero and The Sims. XPERIA Play will be available in two colours; black and white.
