Eugene Kaspersky, the chap behind the anti-virus software of the same name, has been making some predictions about the future of smartphones at MWC and basically it boils down to Android dominating the market.
Kaspersky predicts that Android will grow to dominate the market with an 80% share whilst the likes of Apple and RIM scramble for the remaining 20%.
I believe that if Apple, BlackBerry, Microsoft don’t change their strategy very soon we will soon have the same mobile operating system landscape as we have with computers
The reference at the end there is to Microsoft and IBM in the 80’s when they dominated the home computer market. This time aroud the combo would be Google and Qualcomm. It’s pure speculation of course, but Android is undeniably growing faster than any other mobile platform right now. Will it come to dominate? Who knows, but if any one OS has a chance of doing so it’s probably Android.
