First things first, our BRAVIA TV team announced this week that they were going to be the initial television manufacturers to fully integrate the YouView service into all of their 2015 devices.
Sony’s BRAVIA TVs will now be making it easier than ever to catch up on your favourite TV shows, offering UK viewers the ability to watch any missed TV shows from BBC iPlayer, 4oD, ITV Player and Demand 5 (among others) without having to purchase a separate set-top box.
This upgraded entertainment experience is set to launch this summer with each of our fleet of twelve 4K Ultra HD TVs also offering the best in eye-catching design and breath-taking screen technology., It’s definitely something worth considering for the living room.
From home screens to the red carpet now – Xperia Z3, Z3 Tablet Compact and SmartBand Talk have been nominated for the prestigious GSMA 2015 Global Mobile Awards in the Best Smartphone, Best Tablet and Best Wearable Mobile Technology categories respectively.
This award celebrates 20 years of achievement and innovation across the mobile industry and we’re honoured to have been acknowledged for our wearable technology. The ceremony itself is on Tuesday, 3rd March at GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (hosted by John Cleese no less!) and we’ll make sure to update you on how we get on.
Speaking of awards, you might have noticed that the Sony World Photography Awards 2015 are coming up. Well, this week, the World Photography Organisation announced who’ll be receiving the prestigious Outstanding Contribution to Photography award at this year’s ceremony; renowned Magnum photographer Elliott Erwitt.
At 87 years old Elliott has been in the business a long time and has deservedly been recognised for his work with black and white photography. With his candid approach to portrait work, Elliott is a truly worthy winner.
“To me, photography is an art of observation, it’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place.”
- Elliott Erwitt
The annual Gala Ceremony will take place in London on Thursday 23th April and will see Elliott Erwitt along with the winners of the other professional categories recognised for their outstanding contributions to photography. Congratulations Elliott!
One of the best things about being nominated for an award is the ceremony; the glitz, the glamour, the party…It’s basically an excuse to get dressed up. Well, our team in Japan have been developing a quirky Skin View Camera system that aims to help you look the part. Or at least notice when you don’t look the part.
BeautyExplorer is a Smart Skin Evaluation Program that uses Sony’s camera technology along with a small skin view camera to deliver speedy analysis of skin. It can tell you all you need to know about any unwanted blemishes, pores, brightness or colouring that has had the misfortune of gracing your face. Alas, we can’t develop an app that will remove them just yet (we’re not that good), but surely half of the battle is knowing that they’re there.
The service will initially be made available to partners across the beauty industry in Japan but its potential within the broader sphere of cosmetics makes it a project worth watching out for.
