Welcome to the first installment of our App of the month series – celebrating the most innovative, forward-thinking and useful Android apps available on the market today. To kick us off we have Foursquare’s latest app – Swarm, a new and novel way to keep up and meet with friends.
If you’ve used Foursquare before you’ll know it allows you to ‘check-in’ to places based on their offline location.
So what’s different about Swarm? Well, Swarm uses Foursquare’s check-in technology to show you where your friends are. If you’re on your own, wondering if anyone’s around, Swarm will locate your Facebook friends from 500 feet to five miles away so you can see who’s close by and join them.
What’s more, you can update your Swarm status with plans for later (‘anyone fancy lunch in the sun in Central Park?’). All your friends have to do is place an ‘I’m interested’ message on the status and hook up with you later on.
Seriously, there aren’t many better apps out there to find your friends fast and improve your weekend.
The app’s available for Android right now in selected markets from Google Play. Make sure to check it out.
Happy Swarm-ing!
