The Nokia Lumia 920T arrived in the world’s biggest smartphone market at a ceremony in Guangzhou today with China Mobile, the nation’s largest mobile network.
The Lumia 920T’s arrival marks an important milestone for both Nokia and the industry. It’s the first TD-SCDMA Windows Phone – and the first Windows Phone 8 device in China. (TD is China’s 3G telecoms standard).
Announcing the launch, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said:
“We are delighted to partner with China Mobile, the largest operator in the world, to introduce our first Lumia on Windows Phone 8 device in this key market for Nokia. We are excited for Chinese consumers to experience the most innovative smartphone with the best photography and navigation capabilities.”
Lie Yue, CEO of China Mobile Communications Corporation, said that Nokia’s “strong commitment to the Chinese market, great performance with Lumia, and continued innovation” were key factors in selecting Nokia to supply China Mobile’s first Windows Phone.
