After recently announcing what phones would get the Android 4.0.4 update, Sony Mobile have now started to release the update to certain devices, and we hope that the remaining devices will follow soon.
The roll-out started out on Tuesday 29th May, but we wanted to gather some more information before posting about it. The current phones getting the updates are the Xperia Arc, Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo, Xperia Neo V, Xperia Ray and the Xperia Pro.
As usual, with such a major update, Sony Mobile have also made topics on their support forum for each device as to which SI has the updated firmware. Though I have taken the time to find the topics, it must be noted that not all of the topics haven’t got all the information you need to know; this mainly affects the phones that Sony Mobile haven’t released the firmware for at time of writing – I imagine the topics will be updated in due course:
- Xperia Arc: link
- Xperia Arc S: link
- Xperia Neo: link
- Xperia Neo V: link
- Xperia Pro: link
- Xperia Ray: link
- Xperia Mini: link
- Xperia Mini Pro: link
- Xperia Active: link
- SE Live With Walkman: link
We do not know what regions or what SI numbers are going to get update; the best source would be to use the links above for your device.
There are one or two bugs with the update though: some users have reported that video recording (particularly on 720p recording using Xperia Pro) is rather “laggy”, and that the battery life is down on what it used to be when compared to the 2.3.4 firmware. However, apparently the idle life has been dramatically improved in the 4.0.4 firmware. Should you choose to update (or not): the choice is yours, and not ours. Also, do not forget that the firmware is only available (officially) via SEUS or PC Companion on your computer, not Over The Air.
As for the 2012 Xperia’s: I’m affraid there is no topics that have been created for you (yet).
