Sony today announced Xperia Sola with a cool new feature called the “floating touch” technology. Exited yet wondering what’s ‘floating touch’ ?! The technology lets consumers navigate by hovering their finger above the screen so it acts like a moving curser, without actually having to touch the screen. Browsing web on the phone becomes extremly simple as you just need to hover your finger above the screen and once the link you need is highlighted you just need to tap the screen. ‘Floating touch’ is not limited to mere web browsing but a lot of other applications will benefit it. The technology lets you access the screen up to 20mm above the display. This is something revolutionary from Sony.
Calum MacDougall, Head of Xperia Marketing for Sony Mobile Communications, commented on this:
“Xperia sola comes with the power of Sony and a sense of magic with floating touch, giving consumers a fun new way to browse the web and latest technology to show off. With Xperia SmartTags out of the box and access to the latest content through Sony Entertainment Network, Xperia sola is perfect for consumers looking for ease of use and the best in entertainment in a smart and innovative smartphone.”
The rest of the hardware includes a 3.7 inch display (854 x 480 pixels), 1GHz dual-core ST-Ericsson NovaThor U8500 processor, Mali 400 GPU supported by 512MB of RAM. The phone packs a 5mp rear shooter capable of 720p video recording. Connectivity options includes NFC and DLNA. It has an 8GB of internal storage of which 5GB is user accessible (microSD, up to 32GB supported). The phone is powered by a 1320mAh embedded battery and will be running on Android Gingerbread (ICS update promised). It will be available globally in Q2. You can select from black, red and white varients.
