It seems that the XDA devs are still fighting Sony Ericsson for customization. Already they can flash the Xperia Arc with the decrypted firmware for the Arc, so if theres something you dont like about the new Arc firmware, then it seems you have a possibility to reflash the old one.
As for whether the Xperia Play can be flashed with this method, we have no news on it.
