During the AT&T Developers Summit, taking place during the 2012 International CES in Las Vegas this week, several of the new phones that will be available through AT&T were announced. One of them is Xperia™ion, the first LTE smartphone from Sony* which will be available exclusively in the US for AT&T.
Xperia™ ion is an impressive smartphone, and I am really excited by it. With an amazing (and really huge) 4.6 inch HD display (with Mobile BRAVIA Engine) it takes HD content viewing, game playing and web navigation to another level. The images really are brilliant and clear, and the sound experience is also really good, so watching HD movies is just amazing. And Xperia™ ion is also PlayStation™ Certified, so you know playing games will also be a really good experience!
Another feature that impressed me from the Xperia™ ion is the 12 MP HD camera, that takes great photos, but not only that, it also takes photos really fast! With a new Fast Capture innovation that makes sure you never miss to capture any important moment in your life, the HD camera goes from standby mode to first shot in 1.5 seconds. And the pictures you take are crisp and brilliant. Also, both the front (1.3 MP) and the back- facing cameras deliver HD recording capabilities.
With HDMI and DNLA capabilities, Xperia™ ion provides easy connectivity across multiple screens, so you can view, share, access and enjoy your content through your smartphone, TV, laptop or tablet.
Some of the key features for Xperia™ ion are:
- 4.6 inch HD Reality display with Mobile BRAVIA® Engine, with HD resolution screen (1280 x 720), as well as rear (1080p) and front (720p) cameras for HD recording
- 1.5 GHz dual-core processor for fast browsing and content download, which can be stored on the internal 16GB flash storage.
- 12 MP rear camera with Sony Exmor R™ for mobile with fast/capture to go from standby to first shot in 1.5 seconds.
- HD sharing through DLNA, HDMI and BRAVIA sync to quickly and easily stream content to other screens.
- PlayStation™ Certified and access to entertainment services from Sony Entertainment Network, like Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited.
Check out this video that the Developer world team made to know more about Xperia™ ion, and visit the press release if you want more information.
We have a lot more coming during the 2012 International CES, so stay tuned!

It is confirmed that Sony Ericsson’s Ice Cream Sandwich ROM will release with the same kernel that is currently used for gingerbread. The official statement is from Sony Ericsson developer Karl-Johan Dahlström.
He justifies the decision for it’s a fact that with the same kernel as now the company can deliver the update to its users as early as possible. He made his comment in xda-developers ,
“ I have seen quite a few comments regarding the kernel version in the ICS alpha release. The reason why we are keeping the 2.6.32-kernel is that we have prioritized time to market. It is rather quick to get a new kernel up and running, but it takes a lot of testing and validation to make it stable and run with the modem, get a good battery performance etc. Quite some effort has been put in to the Sony Ericsson 2.6.32 kernel, to make it as stable and reliable as possible for the 8255 platform, and we do not feel that the user benefit of a new kernel would justify a later release date. ”
For those who have no idea of what a kernal is, in simple words, it is a bridge between applications and the actual data processing done at the hardware level. A newer android kernel version means more security, memory, process and power management.
Sony Ericsson’s decision to let the current kernel version remain will not make a widespread protest from the customers because the majority of them are not aware about it. They only look to whether they get the Ice Cream Sandwich update or not, once they get it, they think they got it all. The company’s interest in giving out the updates as early as possible is appreciable but we do hope that they provide an updated kernel as well at any time later.

No właśnie usłyszałem, że w lutym.
