Continuing Android software upgrades – Jelly Bean for 2012 Xperia™ smartphones
Hello everyone,
There’ve been a fair few questions here on the blog, our support forum and our social media channels, regarding upgrade plans for Android 4.1 (also known as Jelly Bean). Today we are happy to give you a bit of an update.
Our latest models, Xperia T and Xperia TX are shipping across global markets as you read this post, and Xperia V is on the way shortly – these smartphones will begin to receive the upgrade to Jelly Bean from mid-Q1 2013.
Next up, we can confirm the global versions of Xperia S, Xperia acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia J will be upgraded to Android 4.1* – we will be back with detailed timings for these in due course.
We were glad to provide the Android 4.0.4 upgrade for our 2011 Xperia portfolio across most markets and the majority of models but, after thorough evaluation, we have concluded they will not be upgraded beyond Ice Cream Sandwich.
Beyond Ice Cream Sandwich we would not able to guarantee owners of these smartphones the user experience you expect and we demand. We will however, continue to support all these products with firmware maintenance releases.
As usual, the only official software update news will be found regularly here on the blog and we’ll keep you posted as soon as we have news to share.
If you have any questions, feel free to drop them below.
Will…
*Availability and rollout timing will vary by market and customer variants.

Xperia™ T is HD Voice certified
Guys, just a quick one to tell you about something pretty cool – nothing short of the most significant voice quality upgrade in mobile history…
Xperia T is HD Voice Certified, a GSMA accreditation meaning you can talk normally and be heard clearly even when in noisier environments.
A screeching train? The kettle hissing in the kitchen? Roadworks pounding the pavement? The office gossip (we all know one) that won’t pipe down?
Well, now you don’t have to shout to be heard.
HD Voice differentiates mobile devices by voice call quality; the human voice is replicated down to a tee, creating a quality aural experience that is vastly improved from what we have encountered previously with both mobile and traditional fixed line telephony. It’s almost like a whisper in your ear, you feel closer to the person you are talking to.
It has to be heard to be believed; check out the sound-file demonstrations and hear for yourself.
That’s not all – keep your eyes peeled as our friends at Developer World will be taking a more technical look (listen) in the not too distant future
Ant.

Enhance your experience of Smart Wireless Headset pro
Hello everyone,
As you may remember we’ve posted previously about the Smart Wireless Headset pro and introduced all the cool features that make it the ultimate headset for handling calls and even for use as a stand-alone mp3 player (saving your phone battery in the process!).
Since we launched the product we’ve been listening to your feedback across our forums, and in response we’ve further enhanced the experience by releasing a new software update 0.1.C.0.3.
To get the lowdown on how to update your Smart Wireless Headset pro software, click through to our software update page here.
Once you have got your software updated, below are a few tips and tricks to getting the most out of it!
Firstly, the easiest way to get your top tracks onto your Smart Wireless Headset pro? Use the CCR-80 (micro SD card reader included in the kit*), plug the reader into the USB port of your computer, insert your SD card, transfer your music files and then just slide your updated SD card back into your headset and you are ready to rock!
There are also some useful hot key shortcuts on the Smart Wireless Headset pro. When listening to the radio, you can save the radio frequency of your choice by pressing the previous and next track buttons simultaneously on the headset. Thus your favorite station will only ever be a click away. You can also directly access the call log of your Android phone by doing a long press on the answer/end button on the headset making those last dialed numbers easily accessible.
As always, we’ll be keeping you informed on all the latest updates to make sure that you get the best possible experience from all our products.
Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
*N.B.: As the kits are differing from market to market, if you do have one without the CCR-80 in the kit content, you can use any micro SD card reader with USB 2.0 high-speed.

Xperia™ T now available – gets all action TV advert!
Back in August we announced the imminent arrival of our new global flagship smartphone, Xperia T – which as I’m sure you’ll recall provides Sony’s best HD smartphone screen, camera and One-touch functionality. And not least, the handset sported by James Bond in the upcoming movie Skyfall. Well it’s now rolling out and we’ve gone and made a Bond themed advert for it too.
With an action packed smartphone we needed an action packed advert. So we turned to Hollywood for support and we were fortunate to secure the services of Joe Carnahan, whose recent blockbuster hits include “The A-Team” and “The Grey”. He whisked us over to Prague for a four day shoot and directed proceedings with a team led by 1st Assistant Director, James Bittoni (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The A-Team). The new ad is a homage to Bond and includes many visual cues to previous Bond films. It follows a consumer’s action packed journey across the Czech capital in order to buy the brand new Xperia T.
You can see the new adrenaline pumping ad above.
In order to give the ad more of a Bond flavour we included a dramatic car scene involving an Aston Martin Vantage V12 – one of only 1,000 ever made as well as a high speed ‘near miss’ scene between a speedboat and a 100 foot trawler on the River Vltava. Stuntman, Tomaz Rydval – under the supervision of stunt controller, Ben Bray (The A-Team and The Fighter) also provided some spectacular finishing touches by running across rooftops, dropping onto narrow walkways and falling from a building.
Enjoy, and look out for some exclusive behind the scenes footage later this month.

The future of sharing
Guys,
As a company that continues to innovate in NFC, it’s cool because we’re simplifying every day tasks and creating mobile experiences that “just happen”.
So, here’s a quick run down of 5 things you can do with effortless One-touch sharing from Sony -
With a single touch you can…
- share captured memories effortlessly across Sony smartphones, tablet and VAIO computers. The snap of the night that was? The killer shot of an epic holiday? A family picture? No problem – share and share alike.
- enjoy tunes on our NFC-enabled headsets. If you’re that way inclined, no wires might make it a little easier to bop along in public? It’s each to their own with your phone and headset paired.
- instantly crank up the volume by amplifying tunes on our NFC speakers. An instant, easy and convenient way… to start an impromptu party – touch your phone on the speaker and share your tunes with friends.
- make things a little simpler with Xperia SmartTags – customize each tag to automatically carry out tasks and trigger functionality. Long day at work; feeling lazy; early night on the cards? Just touch the “bedroom” tag to mute your phone, set the alarm, deactivate WiFi or whatever other task you choose. Goodnight Vienna
- never fear your phone losing battery before an important call. Don’t sweat it, you can share contact details and web addresses to another smartphone with a single touch. Now there’s no excuse to give that all-important conference call a miss…
Also, don’t forget – our latest Facebook competition ends Tuesday next week. Simply, answer a question based on our new TV ad to be in with a chance of winning an Xperia T and and Xperia V – a Sony smartphone for you and one for the one you share with most!
