Using the power of Nokia’s HERE platform, Package Tracker takes advantage of Nokia’s top-notch mapping data to create a useful and accurate parcel tracking app, with support for over 60 carriers.

Whenever you order something online, or send something out into the world, logging onto the couriers website and tracking the parcel doesn’t always offer the best possible experience. It usually means that you have to be sat at a PC as the mobile-version of their website isn’t always up to scratch.

This is fine if you’re sat at a PC, but what if you’re not? This is where Package Tracker comes in handy.

Upon first launch, you’ll need to select the courier company from one of the 60 provided in the drop-down menu. If the courier company you’re using isn’t there, the team behind the app are more than happy to add it to future updates if you email them to let them know. You can find their email address from within the contact option in the app settings.

Next, you’ll need to have your package number ready to type in, or you can also scan in the details using the barcode scanner. With support for QR, Data Matrix, UPC or EAN codes, to name only a few, you’ll be sure to be one scan away from digitally-connecting your phone to your package.

Once you’ve given your package a name, which could be handy for people handling more than one package, pressing save will take you to the details page. It’s here that you’ll see more information on the journey of the package, from when it was first sent out to where it’s been, and currently is. You’re also shown the estimated delivery date and time.

While these details are essential to following the progress of your package, seeing it all on a map is a much nicer experience – swipe left to see a fully detailed map. Plus, should you want to visit the website of the courier, swipe left again.

To keep a constant eye on your packages, each and every item can be pinned to your Nokia Lumia’s Start screen in the form of a Live tile. These will dynamically update to show the latest news on your parcels, keeping you informed through each and every day.

There’s also a Windows 8 version of Package Tracker that runs on Windows 8 tablets and computers. Activating the cloud sync feature from within the app will enable you to receive updates across all devices, at the same time.

Have you used Package Tracker to track your deliveries? Do you use it regularly, or only every now and then? Let us know, using the comments section below.

Seeing different parts of the world is both a pleasure and a privilege. Yet the modern travelling experience can also bring its fair share of irritations and problems.

That’s why this week’s Asha App Spotlight is World Traveler, which is an essential holiday companion with several useful features. You could say that it’s the Swiss Army knife of travel apps.

The World Traveler app has long been available for other Nokia handsets – its website claims that it has been installed on over 5 million devices – and it has now arrived for Asha Touch smartphones.

World Traveler

In summary, the World Traveler app for Asha incorporates a world clock, currency converter and a flight assistant.

The World Clock has one of the more attractive designs that I have seen and you can monitor the time in up to three other destinations in addition to the time in your home city.

Likewise, the currency converter is also simple to use. It takes your ‘home’ currency and shows you what you can get with your hard-earned cash in three other international currencies.

Be mindful, that you need a data connection to get the latest exchange rates. Within the app, you can set the update interval to daily, weekly or manual.

Personally, I found that it was easiest to leave it in manual mode and to just tap the ‘update exchange rates’ button in the menu whenever I needed a quote.

Flight Assistant

The third feature of World Traveler, Flight Assistant, is perhaps the most useful but there is a catch.

While world clocks and the currency converter are already enabled with the free app, you need to pay extra for Flight Assistant. To unlock it costs £4 in the UK, so you should check for your local price.

It’s perhaps worth mentioning that World Traveler has plenty of other premium features but at the moment they are only supported on Symbian S60 devices. So it might be worth keeping an eye out to see if they expand this Asha app in the future.

I think it is also pertinent to mention that even when you’re just using the free features, World Traveler contains no adverts.

If you pay for Flight Assistant you’ll be able to search the flight schedules of major and low cost airlines. The best feature though is the ability to set up alerts for your flight.

The app will work in the background and notify you immediately when your gate is announced, or if the flight is delayed and if you’re really unlucky, if it’s cancelled.

With or without Flight Assistant, World Traveler is well worth taking with you on your next trip.

If you’re not sure how to make a Cinemagraph, all you need is your trusty Lumia 620, 820 or 920 and the Cinemagraph app. For more details on how to actually create your Cinemagraph, take a look at our tutorial.

The competition starts now and will end at midnight GMT on the 21st February. As ever, make sure you read the full Terms and Conditions before entering.

Tip: The Nokia Connects judges will grant extra points to Cinemagraphs that demonstrate your passion. So whether you’re a footballer or a die hard rock music fan, we want to see what you love doing come across in your entry. Bear that in mind!
