We are very happy and proud today! EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association) has announced their annual awards and two of our phones have been selected as winners this year!

Xperia arc was selected as European Camera Phone of the Year 2011-2012, while Xperia mini won the European Green Smartphone 2011-2012.

As an Xperia arc user myself, I’m really pleased that it was selected as the Camera Phone of the Year, because it really does have a great camera and the photos (and video) you can get with arc are fantastic! And the phone just looks so good…

And Xperia mini’s award as European Green Smartphone is just as exciting. Xperia mini is actually part of our Greenheart portfolio, which means that they are produced with non toxic paint, recycled plastics, reduced packaging, and also include an e-manual and a green charger.  Actually, we have been committed on reducing toxic materials and chemicals, and also working on recycling our materials and producing more eco-friendly phones for a long time now, so this award makes us really happy.

We have exciting news for all Xperia™ PLAY users and fans directly from Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, where Sony Ericsson is now showing some of the best selection of the growing ecosystem of more than 150 game titles optimized for PLAY.

Here are some of the news:

• Although not news from Gamescom: Minecraft, from Mojang, is now available for Xperia™ PLAY on Android Market since August 15. You might remember Minecraft  from E3 where we met Carl and Notch from Mojang, and I can say a lot of people, including myself, were expecting this game!
•  Also, we announced that FIFA 2012, from EA, will be available optimized for Xperia™ PLAY. Also from EA we will see Need fom Speed Hot Pursuit, and Dead Space.
• New games from Sony Ericsson’s new developer program “Stand Out” are also starting to be available for Xperia™ PLAY. You can know more about the Stand Out (including really good videos of Lame Castle by Be-Rad Entertainmentand Hyperlight by Catfishblues Games) in the Developer World Blog.

Second day of Gamescom in Cologne, Germany! I want to share this great picture that the guys over there sent us of the Sony Ericsson booth after the Minecraft session we had there.  It was a big success!!

I hope someone brings me a Steve head from Gamescom!

In May we announced Facebook inside Xperia™  which lets you interact with Facebook in a lot of ways from different parts of your phone without launching the app. My favourite features of Facebook inside Xperia™ are Facebook images in my phones photo Gallery and the truly great media widget which collects the music and video content posted by my friends on Facebook on one of my home screens until I have time to check it out.

At Gamescom in Cologne we yesterday announced a new feature of Facebook  inside Xperia™ for Xperia™ PLAY.  Soon you will be able to recommend your favourite games instantly on Facebook from your Xperia™ PLAY. I’m especially looking forward to the possibility of sharing my Minecraft masterpieces and top scores from other games by uploading screenshots to Facebook.

The other day we came across a rather interesting blog post written by Chris Pruett, creator of the game Replica Island. We thought it was intriguing, not only because of Chris’s conclusions about the need for game developers to support Xperia™ PLAY, but also because it draws an interesting picture of the gaming landscape today and how it may evolve in the near future.

In any case, we thought it was a fascinating analysis that we didn’t want to keep from you.  And yes, we are obviously delighted with the great developer support we are getting for the Xperia™ PLAY, and we’d love to get some more… For those of you who are not convinced yet, you might want to have a look at what Chris writes. What do you think?

Read for yourself in the blog post entitled Want to Change the Game Industry? Support the Xperia PLAY. Also, don’t forget to keep an eye the Sony Ericsson Product blog for news about the Xperia™ PLAY and new game titles. We are approaching well over a hundred games supporting the Xperia™ PLAY game controls and we are still counting!
