Sony Ericsson made camera libraries (drivers) available!
SE is giving quite a bit these days! From announcement of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, to supporting FreeXperia group, Sony Ericsson is making a big step in development, and what’s more important, making a step ahead of the others. We just might see SE going up the ranks.
Making camera libraries, (essentially camera drivers) public, means that modders around the world can modify those libraries, make adjustments of their liking, and ultimately have better experience with Xperia smartphones and their cameras. Similar situation already happened with Sony Ericsson cellphones, now you got whole array of camera drivers that are better than original ones, even that they are model-dependent.
This libraries come with special EULA licence (in archive), it’s not that long, it’s not strict, but do read it carefully before doing anything.
SE says that they decided to do this because, at first, drivers made some trouble to FreeXperia group, as libraries they used heavily relied on Xperia’s default ROM, while FreeXperia group used custom ROMs, which didn’t totally support the camera. Next move was by Sony Ericsson. They rebuilt the drivers, essentially keeping same files, but made it less reliable on default Xperia ROM. And then they decided to make them public, as they realized that this could help people using custom ROMs, and even users with default ROM, that wanted to get out every bit of their cameras.
On the other side, we expect fixing of Xperia Mini Pro’s electromagnetic noise problem, as some believe that faulty drivers are causing trouble.
You can download the libraries here (remember to read that short license inside archive)
At the moment, it’s not very clear on how to edit libraries, but they should hopefully explain it soon at FreeXperia XDA thread

Unlock boot loader site updated
The other day we updated the texts and instructions on our unlock boot loader site, available at unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com. The biggest change? Now there is a way for you to check if it’s possible to unlock your phone or not, before even starting the unlock process, by accessing the service menu on your phone.
Read more about the rest of the changes after the jump.
With this update, we hope the instructions and important information will be a lot clearer, at the same time as it will be easier to know if your phone is unlockable or not. These are the biggest changes:
- It is now possible access the service menu in the phone, thus getting a direct answer to if your phone can be unlocked or not.
- A known issues section has been added to the Get started page and the Instructions page, and we have also added an Important information section to the Get started page, instead of having issues and warnings spread out all over the site.
- The android_winusb.inf-file has been updated to support the latest Android SDK. To use this file, you must be running Google USB Driver package revision 4 or higher.
- The separate supported phones page is removed, to avoid duplication of information and confusion. The list of supported phones is provided in the left column box.
- Overall revision of texts and page layout to make the information clearer.
If there is any confusion about any of the steps in the instruction, feel free to drop us a comment and we will see what we can do about it. Check out the site at unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com!

Share your images in a big screen with vscreens.com
Recently, we tried a service from Sony Ericsson that makes showing images and presentations really easy from your Xperia: vscreens.com, a cloud service that allows you to make any big screen with a browser, like a PC, Google TV, PlayStation3 or Internet enabled screens, display your content within seconds
With vscreens.com, you only need to download the app from Android Market, then set your browser on the big screen to vscreens.com and hold your phone up so the app reads the QRcode in the screen, and that’s it! You can start showing off the great pictures you took on your latest trips to your friends and family, without the need of cables, bluetooth pairing or setting up things like DNLA or SMB servers.
The service works with any device with Android 2.1 and higher versions, so you can use your Xperia phone or any other phone or device with Android.
Tell us what you think!
