The “wisdom of crowds” says that the many are smarter than the few – but can they be better at gaming too? That’s what our French team set out to discover when they built a crowd (and cloud)-controlled robot that will play LittleBigPlanet^TM 3 remotely… in every sense of the word.

To celebrate the launch of LittleBigPlanet^TM 3 and to demonstrate the all-round awesomeness that is PS4 ^TM Remote Play* on Xperia, the team built an internet-connected robot in its flagship Champs-Elysees store. The robot is connected to a DUALSHOCK®4 Wireless Controller and an online portal – operation-remotectrl.com, where players can log on, pick a team (either Xperia or PlayStation®) and have a go at controlling Sackboy and the rest of the onscreen action… all of which is displayed on our Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.

But there’s a catch, the robot analyses all of the commands sent to it, so players will have to pull together to successfully navigate the new (and even some custom designed exclusive) levels.

For the real pros, or just those who want to cause a bit of havoc, players can even get involved on Twitter using #RemoteCTRL, and either #Xperia or #PlayStation to pick a team – and simply tweet #up, #down, #left and #right to control the characters.

There’s no doubt you’ve already caught wind of our Xperia Photo Academy that’s been running over the last few weeks. Our online tutorials from some of the World’s best photographers have been offering tips & tricks on contrast, perspective and low light photography, helping to ensure you’re making the most of the Xperia Z3’s camera.

Well, this week our team in Indonesia joined forces with renowned fashion photographer Rio Motret (Instagram: RioMoret) to take these tutorials offline, setting up an interactive photography workshop. Rio Motret showcased first-hand just how easy it is to master and maximise smartphone photography skills covering four key modules – contrast, perspective, low light and high fashion photography.

Participants were also tasked with an Xperia photo hunt challenge – battling against the clock with just 30 minutes to find, tag and upload their own image based on each lesson they learned  for the chance to win an Xperia Z3!

From photography classes to product updates – this week also marks the roll out of the latest SmartWatch 2 software enhancement.

This latest update allows SmartWatch 2 wearers to fully customise and personalise their SmartWear device with a range of new features.

Including interchangeable watch faces, fun emoticons, the introduction of sort app – allowing you to order and organise your list of applications and a new do not disturb functionality.

We’d like to introduce you to our Single-Lens Display Module – a concept that’s part of our exploration into eyewear within our wearable experience… that all started last year with SmartEyeglass.

This new lens module is capable of attaching to conventional eyewear – transforming glasses, sun glasses or even goggles into a smart device, capable of displaying visual information.

Whether you’re donning ski goggles, sunglasses or reading specs, the module will give you instant access to visual information, via a single 640x400px High-res Colour OLED Microdisplay to help you with whatever you’re doing – be that aiming for the green or going on a run.

We’ll be working closely with commercial partners on Single-Lens Display Module through 2015, to shape the experiences – and as you might expect, we’ll also be making an SDK available for partners.

But before that – we’ll be showcasing the new technology at CES 2015 under the working title; “SmartEyeglass Attach!”- along with “SmartEyeglass” – so stay tuned for more in the New Year.

Yesterday we released the third instalment of pro photo tips from Xperia Photo Academy via our Xperia Facebook page.

Our first two tutorials offered expertise in perfecting contrast photography, thanks to J.N. Silva, and manipulating perspective, with tips coming from Ben Thomas.

This week, we’re looking at low-light tips and tricks from travel, lifestyle and documentary shooter (and, of course, low light photography expert), Greg Funnell.

Using the 20.7MP camera and fully exploiting the ISO 12,800 mode on his Xperia Z3, Greg offers his insights on to how to take the best photos in low light conditions.
