It’s been a big week here for us at Sony – or should we say small?

This week our friends over at Sony Electronics joined forces with Arsenal and France footballer Olivier Giroud for a football world first ‘Mircrotising’ campaign.

The campaign highlights the superior colour and detail available through Sony’s 4K TVs and showcases what the beautiful technology is capable of. How you ask?  They’ve installed microscopic ads on Giroud’s boots and on individual blades of grass that can only be picked up by those catching the action on 4K TVs, thus proving you don’t need to have big adverts to have a big impact.

4K displays are changing the way we watch television, particularly sport, allowing viewers to pick up more detail and texture than ever before. As Giroud himself says, “4K television is the nearest thing you can get to actually being on the pitch yourself.”

Friday Round a7 III

Whilst we’re talking about outstanding detail it seems fitting to give an appreciative nod to the latest addition to Sony’s latest α7-series interchangeable lens cameras.  The α7 II (ILCE-7M2), announced earlier in the week, is the world’s first full-frame camera with optical 5-axis image stabilisation. Meaning it can detect and correct camera shakes along five axes for still images and videos, including pitch, yaw, tilt and rotation. That’s not the α7 II’s’s only trick though, the compact and light interchangeable lenscamera offers outstanding 24.3 megapixel image quality, fine-tuned framing and focus with its LCD screen, 117-point focal plane phase-detection AF sensor and the world’s smallest and lightest interchangeable-lens.

As we all know, photography is for all camera users these days, and there’s no better proof point of this than our Xperia Photo Academy. On Monday last week we launched our new photography programme with internationally renowned photographers J.N. Silva, Ben Thomas and Greg Funnell offering tips and tutorials to help photographers make the most out of their Xperia Z3 camera.

Over the past two weeks we’ve been focusing on contrast photography with J.N. Silva. Well, as of Monday we’ll be taking a look at Australia’s illustrious perspective photographer Ben Thomas and seeing what he’s got to say about taking small subjects and turning them in to incredible photos. Keep an eye out on the Xperia Photo Academy Facebook hub on Monday for more details on Ben’s tutorial and the launch of a new competition.
